A Look Into: It’s Not Me, It’s U

If Pop music was a teenage girl it would be this. On August 11th, New York City pop singer/ songwriter Rachel Bochner released her 3rd ep “It’s Not Me, It’s U” with a total of 6 tracks and a run time of seventeen minutes and thirty seconds. This EP release comes a year after Bochner’s last song “Graduation” In 2022.
Relatable is an understatement, even after 5 listens, Track 02 “You Don’t Want Me Like That”, running just short of 3 minutes is one of the stand-out tracks of the EP. Too many of us know the feeling of what it’s like to be more than friends but less than lovers. With a light and airy pop beat this track says everything you’ve wanted to say and, maybe even more, without bringing down your mood.
However, if this specific track doesn’t speak to you… Bochner takes a wonderful approach to expressing the way she feels throughout the EP. Speaking about heartbreak, growth, friendship, and drama; singing about at least something we have all gone through once.
The next track titled “Hard To Please” is a direct look into Bochner’s brain. This track is filled with an incredible amount of emotion, and she says it all without having to be too direct with her words. The feeling of changing yourself on the outside, only to still be left with what is on the inside, drowning in your own head, and overall just trying to figure out your personal groove in life. This track takes me back to my formative years of self-discovery and self-exploration in one of the best ways possible. Between the layered vocals and guitar progressions, this track is undeniably a hit being both incredibly well-written and well-produced.
If you’re looking for your newest favorite pop singer, Rachel Bochner is an excellent choice to indulge in, at full blast of course. Her music takes a similar feel to Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Grey, and Taylor Swift. It is safe to say we are incredibly excited to see Rachel Bochner grow and continue to make music that so many people can relate to. Hopefully, the future will be able to hear and see more, until then check out “It’s Not Me, It’s U” and keep up with Rachel on social media to keep an eye out for her newest releases!
