Dela Kay “The One” Single Review

Written by Esosa Zuwa

Nashville-based singer Dela Kay releases her new single “The One” a song about the tumultuous journey of heartbreak, after one has tried to make a relationship work. It’s an angstry, in-your-face, high-energy song, but put against the backdrop of longing and hurt. It’s co-written by Stefano Pigliapoco.

Like the 2000s pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne, “The One” mixes together energetic guitar melodies, hard drums, and a rock-infused bass-line. Before the chorus breaks it, it slows down with an acoustic chorus, stripped-down. The lyrics talk about missing someone, but knowing it's best to part ways because this other person needs to work on themselves more. Lyrics about heartbreak and frustration lay down over the vocals, especially with Dela’s tone.

“The One” is a breakup anthem when you haven’t quite yet stopped being sad over the breakup, but you haven’t completely dropped them yet. It’s an energetic but incredibly poignant song about the realities of heartbreak.
