Palestinian-Chilean artist Elyanna stops in Detroit on February 13th on her nearly sold-out headline tour coming off of the release of her self-titled album “Elyanna 2”. The energy in The Majestic Theatre was so rich with community and culture which has a huge part to do with the kind of environment Elyanna can foster. Known for her Arabic-enriched Rnb and pop sound, the music played throughout the night transcended language barriers. This was evident in the multitude of monolingual concertgoers with the ability to connect and interact with the show she was putting on.
Preparation and creativity were abundant in the performance which displayed an excess of passion for the show's art. Full of little details that knitted the show to form a narrative that encompasses the depth of the culture she cares so deeply about. “ it’s not only a tour, it’s a movement, it’s a culture, it’s empowerment, it’s who we are” -Elyanna via Instagram. This sentiment was so clearly obvious in the presentation set in front of the audience. From dawning traditional Arabic garments that hold centuries of the story in them, the ringing of the traditional tablah echoing throughout the theatre, and the ululation from concertgoers expressing the extreme love and joy for this special night they were blessed with.
This is not a tour you’ll want to skip out on whether you’re an Arabic speaker or not this music speaks to everyone on a level that is understandable in a transcendental emotional experience that you will not want to miss.
