SOAP @ The Key Club Leeds
Elodie: Hey, how are you guys?
SOAP: We’re very good thank you!
Elodie: So to kick things off, how is it being back on tour? Are you all enjoying it?
SOAP: Yeah we’re loving it. It’s been our favourite tour ever so yeah, it’s been the best!
Elodie: I actually saw you guys at Trentham Gardens supporting Busted so I know what I’m in for
this evening.
SOAP: Ah good stuff!
Elodie: You have also been on tour with The Vamps recently. How is it touring with these artists?
SOAP: So good honestly, they have the best fans so The Vamps tour was a dream for us. I think
luckily we’ve converted a few and they are here tonight which is so nice. Honestly, the boys are
the loveliest guys ever so it’s been a dream!
Is there any specific artist that you think inspires SOAP’s sound?
SOAP: Yes, definitely Green Day.
Elodie: I saw them at Old Trafford and they were so good!
SOAP: Ah nice! Me and Josh saw them in London and they were so good! And who else, The Vaccines I think we are heavily influenced by, Cage the Elephant and bands like that really.
Off the back of that question, is there any artist or band, dead or alive you’d like to collaborate with and why?
SOAP: Ooo okay, this is definitely a thinking question and there’s so many people we could choose.
I was actually thinking about this the other day, you don’t really have Indie bands collaborating with other Indie bands.
But we’d love to do something with Sea Girls or The Vaccines or even someone like Kendrick Lamar. That would be so interesting and fun.
So recently your song S.O.S hit three million streams which is incredible guys! Can you talk me through the process of putting that track together and how it feels to have hit three million streams?
SOAP: Really good, honestly amazing! All our numbers jumped up and we were like woahhh. There was a sort of trickle effect which has been really good.
Elodie: It’s been really big on social media, especially on TikTok hasn’t it?
SOAP: Yeah! It came out of sheer panic because this year we really wanted to release as much music as possible and then when we got to about five/six songs in, Josh was producing, mixing, and mastering them all and I think we were like oh my god we have nothing to release now so we said let's do an ABBA cover. It definitely felt natural and it was a super quick process. We didn’t overthink it and we’re so grateful people liked it.
The music industry can be quite difficult but you guys are smashing it. Have you got any advice for aspiring musicians and musicians who want to get to where you are?
SOAP: Don’t overthink it. Our more successful releases have been those we haven’t overthought. I think at the beginning of a band it’s so easy to overthink every little thing and be like this should be this and this should be that and take it all too seriously. Just be yourself at the end of the day and be confident in what you want to do.
Leading off the back of that, what’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given as a band?
SOAP: Ooo what a great question. Umm… Don’t shit on the tour bus aha!
Finally, thank you so much for your time and what is 2024 into 2025 looking like for you as a band?
SOAP: It’s looking busy with recording new music. I think we’re going to go music-heavy and do what we did at the beginning of this year and just record and release as much as we can at the beginning of 2025.
