Chloe Lilac an up-and-coming self-described indie alt-pop-rock artist has been making a name for herself with appearances on tour with fellow alt band Meet Me @ The Altar and on social media with her quirky and unique personality at shows. And with a brand new ep coming out later this year she’s putting her feelers out with a brand new single “Sawed Off Shotgun”
I called Chloe the day before the release to pick her brain on the new single and what we can expect from her in the next couple of months leading up to her new ep. Her new single explores the mental and emotional exhaustion and confusion that comes with falling in love and the things you do when you fall into it.
If you’ve seen Chloe at a show or in music videos one thing that is sure to stand out is her style and her white dresses and red boots. When asked about the inspiration for this style, she explains her obsession with the final girl trope in horror movies and how it relates to her experience with her own mental health stating, “When I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder I became obsessed with the concept of women’s hysteria, because all of my life people have invalidated the way I felt and made me feel crazy. This led me to obsess over the final girl trope In movies and made me want to bring it into my persona as an artist because I felt like the final girl.”
This trope and piece of Chloe’s life play directly into this new single where she explains how unhinged love can make you feel and how it tends to drive you crazy and the lyric “ I got a sawed off shotgun but I’d hold off for you” refers to the feeling of being unhinged and holding it back for the sake of love. With so much invested in this song and this ep following this same narrative of women’s hysteria and the action of love driving you to the brink of madness, this project including this amazing new single is chalking up to be a beautiful and vulnerable view into the heart and mind of Chloe Lilac and you’ll definitely want to give it a listen when it comes out.
