Tristan Flourny’s Sophomore EP
Written by Sage Banks
Starting the year off strong singer-songwriter Tristan Flournoy released her sophomore EP IF THE SHOE FITS, WEAR IT. Consisting of six tracks, running a total of eighteen minutes and fifty-two seconds it is nothing short of absolutely captivating. With the introduction of new tracks and the return of some older ones, it is easy to say that there are no skips.
The EP opens with one of her most popular tracks, Keep That to Yourself. Starting off with an echo-like audio sequence this song opens with a very whimsical and dreamy feel both vocally and instrumentally as it builds to something much bigger. By the time the chorus comes around for the second time, it is almost as if the song has taken a different direction. Quickly going from a melancholy yearning to an angsty call out, as the beat drops the drums prominently begin to carry the beat. Keep That to Yourself feels like a journal entry in the best way possible.
Just one of many things Tristan does well is telling a story through her music no matter what the song is. It is almost as if while listening you are watching a character go through their entire arch from beginning to end. It is clear that vulnerability is not something she fears, and it truly shines through in each and every track. Whether it be angst, sadness, anger, or yearning as a listener it is so easy to connect to any song as they are all so raw and honest. Writing about love, heartbreak, her career, and a multitude of other things her music truly makes an impact on everyone, but especially those who may find themselves going through similar situations.
This EP also comes with the release of new tracks as well like BIG BABY!, which takes more of an indie-pop approach, and lets hope i move on, the ending track that ties everything together. With the release of new music also comes with a new music video for the track, tough subject for those looking for a fully immersive way to listen, it is more than worth a watch! For anyone looking to dive into a new artist Tristan is your girl. Especially for those who are fans of Leith Ross, and or Lizzy McAlpine, and looking for a new artist to add to your rotation you won’t be disappointed!
