Back in August, singer Elijah Woods released a stellar five-track ep titled bright orange everglow. The album’s closing track was the stunning and lovely ballad, last girl and on the original track, Elijah sang solo. Until he released it as a duet, that is.
This time, with the duet, he’s collaborated with country singer, MacKenzie Porter. This track gives off the perfect story of star-cross lovers. As if you’re listening to that perfect storybook romance that you spend your life dreaming of. The kind that makes you want to have that as your reality.
There are elements throughout the song that are reminiscent of You & Me by Lifehouse, especially during the song’s chorus. On MacKenzie’s end, her vocal style is giving off the likes of Kacey Musgraves and she brings such a beautiful, soulful tone to this beautiful ballad. There’s always that perfect love song that makes you want to fall in love and “last girl" is certainly no exception. Especially with the last lyric of the song, “Then suddenly, it just hit me, you’re the last girl I’m bringing home.” Talk about such a beautiful closing lyric.
This song is nothing short of beautiful, stellar, lovely, romantic, all of the above. Elijah and MacKenzie have that perfect duet chemistry that just shines all throughout the track and it’s nothing short of beautiful.
